Milky

Milky is a free Lightroom preset that gives photos an unsaturated and brightened look. It adds a matte texture to photos that gives images a soft white coat. Its particular adjustments produce a haze that can only be described as “milky”.

This is a great preset to use on portraits. Its cool hues produce an understated and cozy feel. Try it if you want your photos to have a muted yet sophisticated style.

Mutes tones for a Calm Look

Cool Look, Warm Feel. This preset has cool and soft tones that give off a cozy and at-ease feel. This complex cool yet warm vibe is like being home in Christmastime.

Milky decreases saturation to mute the colors throughout the image. In the example above, you can see how the tones are less intense, like most winter colors. To complement this, too, the preset adjusts the exposure to soften some elements and exude an understated warmth.

This preset is therefore ideal for portraits. It brightens faces, underscores the subject’s underlying emotions, and makes images more inviting.

Creates a Film Effect with Intensified Shadows

Cinematic Shadows. The After photo above has more shadows at the upper section. Although there are more blacks now, these are not as intense as the original’s. They remain as soft as the rest of the photograph. Look at the brick wall in the background: there are more shadows on it, but in gentler gray hues.

Milky does not add shadows simply for depth; these are meant to emphasize the sentimental feel. You may notice that this effect is similar to an old film style. You can therefore also apply this preset on your images if you are going for a delicate retro or classic vibe.

Coats Photos with a Matte White Hue

Softened Whites. This example shows how the Milky preset manipulates colors for its signature look. As seen in the first example above, lowering the saturation in images brings colors closer to grays; in other words, colors become less intense. The vibrance remain the same, which is the amount of light in them. Hence, as a result, the After photo still looks brighter, just with tender hues.

Try this if you want your shots to exude a tranquil and comfortable feel. While vibrant images are attractive, they sometimes can appear too loud and unsuitable for portraits.

Evokes a Tender and Cozy Feel

Homey. Milky preset has unmistakable inviting hues, ideal for images that exude warmth. This is great for family shots, cafe scenes, and those captured pockets of solitude. There is an air of nostalgia about it, too.

Look how serene the After photo is now with its delicate hues. The preset adds shadows on the table, while the white haze softens them. These effects go together to produce the atmosphere of home.
