Brightens Expressions
Brightening. The preset first increases the exposure of the photo to add more light to the image. This is complemented by a little increase in contrast, just enough to draw out the tones amidst the brightening. These fundamental settings help highlight the features of the subject and serve as a base for further adjustments in tone.

Produces Warm and Brilliant Tones
Light and Crisp. Bearded Man preset lightens all tones: it makes whites more brilliant, while it lightens blacks and shadows. It refines dark areas, too, by tweaking them further in the tone curve. Then, to add a layer of complexity to the tones, the preset adds an elegant warm tone in the highlights.
You can notice the results in the above example. The highlights, especially the snow in the background, look warm and brilliant. The man’s coat is in a lighter shade of gray, also with a tinge of warmth.
Intensifies Colors and Midtones
Complex Vibrance. The preset distinctly produces rich and deep colors. These are because of its well-blended enhancements in color and tone. For this batch of adjustments, Bearded Man intensifies the colors: it boosts the midtones with clarity, amplifies vibrance, and creates a medium contrast curve.
You can examine the result in the photo above. Notice how the man’s skin tones look more complex in the After photo. Both hues and tones look clear and vivid, too. Between the two photos above, the one on the right, with the Bearded Man preset applied, looks more compelling.
Creates a Contrast Between Warm and Cool Hues
Contrasting Hues. The preset adjusts the saturation of hues to draw attention to the subject and create its signature dark look. This works by lowering the saturation of green, aqua, blue, purple, and magenta. On the other hand, it amplifies the luminance of the color red, which primarily affects skin tones.
See how the man seems to pop more in the After photo above. The background looks dim, and his aqua shirt looks undersaturated. His skin looks more illuminated as well.
Enhances Textures
Sharp Details. This preset can’t be called Bearded Man without its improvements in sharpening and texture. It boosts sharpening so that you can appreciate every detail in the portrait. As you can notice in the above images, the preset makes you notice more features, including the texture of the men’s beard.
As it is a preset specially designed for portraits, it also applies the usual polishing adjustments like noise reduction and vignetting. Notice how the vignette helps frame the portrait and underscore the dark vivid look of the preset.
