Vintage Ocean View is a free Lightroom preset that adds a violet tint to images. It also produces light and airy tones for an appealing vintage look. These effects especially blend well with the cool blue colors of the sky and sea.
This preset therefore specializes in outdoor images, especially of beaches and coasts. You can, therefore, use it on most travel photos. To make the most of its distinct style, make sure to apply it to images with sufficient and diffused natural light.
Creates its Distinct Vintage Look
Vintage Hues. Vintage Ocean View combines several color adjustments to create its signature look, from fundamental adjustments to complex tweaks in processing. All its tweaks make it one of our most unique ocean presets for Lightroom.
The preset begins by lowering contrast to generally soften the colors of an image. It then adds some accent brown tones to highlights and shadows. You can find more of its powerful and complex enhancements at the bottom of Lightroom’s adjustment panels; it tweaks its camera calibration settings to indicate how it processes hues. This affects every RGB pixel, thereby visible in all colors.
Lightens and Softens Tones
Soft Matte. The ocean preset’s matte look is mostly produced by its lightened and softened tones. It mutes highlights and lightens both blacks and shadows. It then slightly increases the brightness of whites to retain some luster. Like most of its settings, Vintage Ocean View fine-tunes tones in the tone curve.
You can easily notice the resulting matte tones in the After photo above. The scene’s mood is visibly transformed: colors look vivid yet the tones are less harsh. Notice how these beautifully combine to create a charming and tranquil atmosphere.
If you think that your shot would benefit more from a brighter but more natural look, you can try free vibrant ocean preset instead. It will help you fix lighting and also amplify colors.
Vibrant. Even with the lightened tones, notice how Vintage Ocean View does a great job at amplifying colors. Its hues always look full and rich. To create this effect, Vintage Ocean View amplifies clarity, vibrance, and saturation. These three are, after all, the settings that set the boldness of color.
Notice how the color boost combines with the softening effects. Examine the tones that define the waves and the cool blue hues that still cut through the preset’s vintage haze.
Refines Color Saturation and Luminance
Balanced Hues. The preset refines color intensity even further in Lightroom’s HSL panel. It increases the saturation of warm colors, including red, orange and yellow. It also boosts that of green to produce vibrant greenery in various landscape scenes.
In contrast, Vintage Ocean View lowers the saturation of the remaining cooler colors. This means that blues become lighter and make way for the preset’s added violet tint. Try to examine the colors of the ocean in the After photo above. The water now has a charming blue-violet hue.
Warm Brilliance. To heighten contrast further while retaining the analog film aesthetic, Vintage Ocean View amplifies the luminance of warm colors and lowers that of green. These act as accents against the preset’s dominant deep blue tones.
