Adds a Dramatic Contrast
Bold Hues. Nature has breathtaking colors that beg to be captured on photographs. When outdoors, however, lighting can be erratic; we also sometimes get undesirable pictures with improper camera settings and hasty shooting.
This preset will help you save some of those captures. One of its basic adjustments is on color contrast: with a boost of it, the image can instantly look livelier.
You can examine the result in the landscape photo above: the field has become vivid with gold and green: the lone tree now has vibrant leaves; the sky is bursting with bold blue hues.
The resulting image is now, indeed, dramatic. The preset has transformed the mood and breathed much life into the image.
Adds Drama with Bolder Shadows and Moderated Highlights
Deep Tones. Notice how the preset darkens some areas of the photograph above. The intensified shadows add depth to the terrain, while the muted highlights reveal more of the sky.
This setting is great if you have overblown areas, which can easily happen when you take an overexposed image outdoors. Unless your metering is accurately set, your photos could appear unevenly lit, even in automatic mode.
The Dramatic Clouds preset further increases whites and lowers blacks; as a result, you get pictures with crisp and rich tones. Look at the After photo above once again and notice how the elements of the image look defined and unified.
Applies Fine Color Adjustments
Vibrant Scenes. This contrasty preset has been optimized for nature and various outdoor shots. This has, therefore, been designed to draw out the colors typically found in landscapes and some urbanscapes.
For this, Dramatic Clouds heightens the saturation of orange, yellow, green, aqua, and blue — colors common to nature photos. This can work on cityscapes too, like in the example above. And of course, to specially emphasize the sky, the preset further amplifies the luminance of blue and aqua hues.
The special yet subtle charm of this preset lies in its tinting: it adds a light yellow tone to highlights and light magenta to shadows. These complement the tweaks in colors and help add drama to the scene.
