Fooled by Dark is a free Lightroom preset that draws out green hues in photos to make them look cinematic. It makes skies look vibrant and horizons lustrous in green. It is designed especially for outdoor photography and will look best on landscapes, urbanscapes, and cityscapes.
You can apply this preset on both daytime and nighttime photos, as long as it is well-exposed. Having enough light will give your images rich, saturated, hues. The examples below will show you how the preset deepens dark tones to complement its brilliant greens.
If you want a unique style for your Instagram, try this as a filter. Its artistic style will surely give your images a dramatic and cinematic look.
Creates Warm and Complex Green Hues
Warm Greens. The preset does a great job of drawing out green hues and also applying a complex layer of it. To create this look, it warms the overall color temperature and blends it with a green tint. It then produces four graduated filters to create intricate shades and effects.
You can examine the After photo above and see how the preset professionally applies these adjustments. The sky is now in warm green and all elements appear crisp. As you can see, the preset complements this color motif with dark accents and deepened hues.
Enhances Tones to Match the Color Motif
Dark Accents. Fooled by Dark amplifies the highlights to serve as accents against the dark green motif. If you have a cityscape like the one above, you can notice this tweak more easily on artificial lighting. This improvement goes hand in hand with a darkening of blacks and a little lightening of shadows. The preset more finely refines these tweaks in the tone curve as well.
Notice how the green hues mostly appear in the bright areas of the image. In the After photo above, see how the buildings seem to emit green lights through their windows. The result now has more character than the original shot.
Crisp and Clear Colors
Crisp Hues. The preset produces bold colors without overdoing them. You can see that it processes them to look cinematic but natural. To produce this style, Fooled by Dark lowers contrast then boosts clarity and saturation. This accentuates midtones and adds depth to milder tones.
As you can see in the image above, the woman now has more complex skin tones. The darkening of the scene also enhances the mood of the photograph. You can even say that it transforms the atmosphere entirely.
Applies Color-Specific Adjustments
Warm Greens. The photo above shows the preset’s effect so well: look at the complex blending of yellow and green hues on the waterfall. Fooled by Dark, after all, applies multiple settings to produce this. The finest tweaks happen in Lightroom’s HSL panel: it makes greens dark yet vivid, yellows light and brilliant.
As a result, green tones have a warm and radiant glow. This becomes more apparent in whites and luminous areas of the image.
Adds Accents and Texture
Color and Texture. In photos with accent lighting, like the dark image above, you can notice some purplish shadows. The preset, after all, does add a purple tone in them. This color serves as a contrasting yet complementing accent to the greens. It somehow makes images look more mysterious and compelling.
As a preset that is optimized for outdoor pictures, Fooled by Dark applies enhancements to textures as well, including sharpening. These bring out details so well, especially from natural elements. Try applying this preset on your nature shots nd see how it makes them look suspensefully magical.
