Cabo da Roca film landscape Lightroom preset

Cabo da Roca

Cabo da Roca is designed by a professional travel photographer, Eugene Zhyvchik. Its unique style beautifully captures the relaxing look and feel of Portugal’s Cabo da Roca. The settings of this preset are, therefore, tailored-fit for landscape and coastal scenery.

Collection: Landscape Presets, Travel Presets, Beach Presets
Best for: Coasts, Fields, Tropical Scenes
Style: Film, Deep and Rich Colors, Emphasized Depth, Warm

We love how its light aesthetic emphasizes the surreal atmosphere of the place. It is, after all, at the western end of Portugal and even of the continent — it is sometimes referred to as “The Edge of the World”. We think that the preset’s bright warm tones and mild hues visually draw out Cabo da Roca’s dreamy and nostalgic feel.

If you have been to this iconic coast yourself, this is the preset to use for those travel photos. It will accentuate the features of coastlines, terrain, ocean waves, and vast skies. You can, of course, also use this preset on pictures of landscapes and beaches! In fact, this is one of the most versatile landscape presets around. You can check out our examples below for ideas.

Fills the Scenery with Sunlight

Sunny Landscapes. As with all outdoor and landscape Lightroom presets, Cabo da Roca optimizes lighting. We want to have that bright, rich, and natural look that is as radiant as sunlight itself. We do not want it to be too harsh, though; we want to keep as much detail as possible.

Bright Matte. To produce this effect, Eugene adjusts the photo’s tones across the board. He brightens white and dark regions. Then, to moderate the brightest areas, he subdues the highlights. This last adjustment ensures that the bright white areas retain depth and detail, plus it gives the image a nice matte polish.

You can easily spot the result above. Notice the vivid sky, especially how the clouds look textured even with all that brightening. Also notice that the shadows are no longer harsh on the subject. The After photo now looks sunnier and far more relaxing.

Emphasizes the Colors of Landscapes

Balanced Colors. The preset produces a cozy and inviting atmosphere. For this, it applies a sunny color temperature throughout the image. It also serves as the base of many more color tweaks. These, of course, make for breathtaking views.

To match its warm aesthetic, Eugene opts for a lighter color motif. In the above example, notice how the sky and sea are now in vivid aqua. He makes these pop up more by lowering the saturation and luminance levels of other colors. As a result, you get stunning cool hues with subdued yet deep warm tones.

The settings do not stop here. The preset even had more granular color adjustments in camera calibration. These dictate how the colors are processed throughout the image.

Because of this distinct motif, this preset also produces a unified look across all your photos. This is exactly why we love it as an Instagram filter! It gives landscape or travel photos a cohesive and professional look throughout your feed.

Natural Vibrance. These series of adjustments also contribute to the preset’s matte texture. We can see how it moderates tonal intensity here: it lowers contrast but amplifies clarity, vibrance, and saturation.

As you can see in the photos above, Cabo da Roca produces natural colors and tones. Nothing is blown up to the point of artificiality. Exceedingly high contrast and saturation, for example, would produce a plastic-like look. This is exactly what the preset avoids, hence its expertly blended improvements.

The most and only boosted setting in this preset is its sharpening. When photographing landscapes, we, after all, want to capture as much detail as possible. This adjustment makes those grass blades look crisp and palpable in the After photo above.
