Creates an Elegant Aesthetic
Understated Elegance. Indie Fields sets its light and airy motif by first tweaking some fundamental elements. These enhancements blend to give images vintage and artistic flair. Unlike other presets in this category, Indie Fields does not overdo brightness nor aggressively fade colors. The effect is similar to our Summit Heights premium landscape preset, with unsaturated hues. You can also get this preset on our bundle.
The preset warms the color temperature and accentuates a green tint. As you can see in the After photo above, these adjustments come together to produce an airy and retro feel Even with the analog photo look, or because of it, the After photo is now more dramatic and compelling.
Indie Fields also makes sure that all elements look distinctly defined, even with its light aesthetic. It does so by increasing clarity levels, thereby reinforcing midtones.
Unsaturated Colors for an Elegant Look
Unsaturated Tones. Another defining characteristic of this premium preset is its unsaturated colors. To create this look, the preset lowers the saturation levels under the Presence panel. It then, only slightly, decreases vibrance as well. These adjustments pull hues towards gray tones; the vibrance setting, however, only slightly affects the midtones. In the After photo above, notice how much the preset unsaturates colors but still keeps them identifiable.
To more finely set its motif, Indie Fields also tweaks the color attributes in Lightroom’s HSL panel. Here, the preset refines the warm tones that define its aesthetic: it pulls all hues towards rich orange shades. For better contrast, Indie Fields also pulls cool colors toward blues.
As it is primarily a preset for blogs and social media, Indie Fields also enhances skin tones. In addition to the refined warm tones mentioned above, the preset also deepens purple and lightens magenta.
Softens Tones for a Matte Effect
Light Matte. It is easy to notice the preset’s matte effect on the After photo above. This is because it lowers the intensity of whites and highlights: it even mutes the brightest regions of the image. You can notice it the most in the sky and the subject’s white dress.
With this adjustment, your images would not have starkly bright whites. The preset even reinforces this in its tone curve. This effect, after all, blends with Indie Fields’ overall light and airy style and is essential to complete the look.
The preset also subdues its dark regions by adding more light to them. It only softens shadows a bit to make sure that the photo would retain some depth. For these settings, try to examine the grass and abandoned structure in the After photo above. It is easy to see the combined effects of the narrowed tonal range.
