Black and Blue

Black and Blue free Lightroom preset converts images to monochrome and gives it a distinct cool polish. Its tones are rich and vivid. It is not an ordinary black and white filter: the preset adds a layer of complexity to every shot.

Even in the absence of color, the preset makes visual elements pop out. You can, therefore, use this understated look to enhance the mood or emotion that you are portraying.

The aesthetic that it applies to images also draws out a nostalgic, even romantic, feel. It is, after all, reminiscent of analog cameras and film. It works best on images shot under diffused natural light.

Transforms Photos into Stylish Monochrome

Cool Film. Black and Blue initially converts the photo to monochrome by switching the processing to black and white mode. This is the base of all its enhancements.

If you look at the After photo above, you will notice that it has a tinge of cool hues. The preset creates this effect by increasing the green tint. It also adds a delicate blue tone in the shadows. These adjustments may be subtle but it is already significant in adding depth to the image.

To give photos an authentic film look, Black and Blue also adds fine grain.

Moderates Tones for a Clean and Crisp Look

Midway. You get rich and balanced tones with this preset. It moderates both highlights and shadows. With this improvement, you can see more details in the softened bright areas and the lightened darks.

In the urban photo above, examine how Black and Blue reveals the texture of the man’s clothing and the sky behind him.

Soft Look. The preset does the same for blacks and whites. It lessens the intensity of both. Blacks look lighter, whites softer. As a result, there are no harsh tones in your photos. It instead gives them a soft, vintage, and magical charm.

Fine-Tunes the B&W Mix

Layered Brilliance. Black and Blue preset fine-tunes the black and white mix settings to broaden the spectrum of tonal intensity. It makes red, green, and purples more luminous than orange, aqua, and blue.

As a result, the sky and bodies of water look emphasized more. You can observe this in the After image above.

These tweaks will also produce smooth skin tones and lively green landscapes. The preset will, therefore, look great on portraits and outdoor photography.

Less Saturated. Finally, Black and Blue preset lowers the saturation of red, green, and blue in the camera calibration settings. This makes the tones look more harmonious. See the man’s shirt and helmet in the example above. Aren’t the details of his motorcycle stunning, too?

If you are looking for a professional but free preset that has both classic look and modern polish, Black and Blue is the one to go for. Its captivating style will draw attention, both in print and on-screen. Try it on your travel photos on Instagram!
