High Tea is a premium Lightroom preset that we designed to add some pastel hues on photos of food, especially sweet and colorful pastries. Its beautifully blended colors make it ideal for food photography and blogging. Given its soft look, it works best on light backgrounds and images shot under natural light.
Try this delectable preset on photos of sweets, desserts, and cozy indoor scenes. Because of its tender and attractive tones, you may also use it for flat lays, as you can see in our example below.
The color motif makes this preset ideal as an Instagram filter. It will allow you to set a cohesive look on your images and even entire feed.
Sets a Cozy Feel with Soft Brightening Adjustments
Light & Cozy. To make this preset pleasing to both the eyes and tastebuds, we optimize the lighting, temperature, and tonal contrast. It is in these fundamental settings that we set the stage for finer adjustments later on. As you can observe in the example above, the effect works best on diffused natural light. This condition makes sure that you get the most of High Tea’s elegantly inviting tones.
From here, we can finally enhance the colors. This is where we set the theme: we blend vibrance and saturation levels to soften hues but also bring out their defining midtones. Just look at the mouthwatering macarons above. The preset does a great job of drawing out the pastel food colors. Try to also notice how the light warm haze sets a homey atmosphere.
Makes Food Look Inviting with Lightened Tones
Delicate Matte. We add another layer of warmth and charm to the High Tea preset by narrowing the tonal range. This means that your images would get muted light regions and subdued shadows. For good measure, we also refine these settings in the tone curve.
Look at the dark areas in the After photo above. The shadows on the food are less intense now, which consequently brightens the image as well. As a result, you can see more of the sliced croissant and the flowers that decorate the table setting.
Observe the white tablecloth this time. It is no longer as bright as the original; it is now in matte. Many of you may also describe this look as light and airy. After all, this is the outcome of combining compressed tones with pastel hues. The adjustments reinforce the preset’s overall gentle look and feel.
Produces Elegant Pastel Hues
Sweet Pastels. The secret to this preset’s inviting and sweet appeal is in its color blending. We customize the color shadings in Adobe Lightroom’s HSL panel. The hues are not simply light; they are also focused on a narrower spectrum. This is necessary to establish a uniform style.
The most noticeable is perhaps the subtle coat of orange. We create this by pulling warm colors closer to shades of orange. This makes a lot of cakes and desserts look sweeter. Even irresistible. You can easily spot the effect in the After photo above just by looking at the pastry.
Softening. The next step from here is to also blend color intensity and brilliance. For this, we adjust the saturation and luminance sliders, also in the same calibration panel. The adjustment for each color differs, of course; everything is balanced and optimized to produce High Tea’s distinct aesthetic.
