A bright photo of a landscape in winter

Winter Light

Winter Light free Lightroom preset gives your winter photos a magical feel. It accentuates the season’s mild hues with adjustments in contrast, saturation, and tones. Your photos will have artistic shades of violet-magenta. Even snow will look more defined with this preset.

Collection: Winter Lightroom Presets
Best for: Outdoor, Natural Light, Snowy Landscapes
Style: Violet-Magenta Shades

With this distinct look, Winter Light is an ideal seasonal Instagram filter. It makes some elements of the image pop against the snow. It thus works well on outdoor photos, especially those rich tones and natural light.

Amplifies Hues with a Contrast Boost

A bright and vivid winter landscape

Intensified Colors. Outdoor winter photos usually do not exhibit that many colors. White, of course, would be everywhere because of the snow. You will not get greens in this season, nor would the sky look vividly blue.

The good thing is that you can use Winter Light preset to draw out those subtle hues in your shot. Its highlights would look somewhat golden, and its shadows crisp with magenta.

Moderates Tones for a More Defined Look

Balanced Tones. To draw out the details as much as possible, the preset softens highlights and shadows. This makes sure that your image would have no overblown highlights and harsh shadows.

As a result, you have a well-defined image. You can examine the photo above as an example. Even if the After picture is much brighter, you can still notice the textures of the trees and the soft shadows in the snow.

The preset refines this effect further by applying a custom tone curve and RGB channel settings. The blend of these improvements produces that signature cool yet elegant look. The results always look professionally done.

Intensifies Blacks for Added Depth

Deep Blacks. To complement the previous batch of settings, Winter Light deepens blacks and applies some darkening adjustments in the tone curve region settings. As a result, dark areas look crisp and full.

Take note of the difference in the above example. The pine trees in the After image look more textured because of the darkened blacks; this effect does emphasize depth and detail.

Amplifies Midtones for a Bolder Look

Crisp Midtones. You can easily see the difference in tone and color in the image above. Because of Winter Light’s boost in clarity, the man’s maroon bonnet looks vivid. See how his coat also looks greener.

To give the photo a nice soft matte polish, the preset also lowers vibrance a bit. It is just enough to give it a bolder tone. You can also try our retro film winter preset for Lightroom if you want more of this matte look.

Applies a Thorough Adjustment in Saturation and Luminance

Color Mix. In this batch of settings, you can see how Winter Light finely adjusts colors. Because of the predominant cool tones in winter photos, the preset bumps up the saturation of yellow and orange — this adds some much-needed warmth. Then, it also heightens some aqua and blue hues to make any water surface look bluer. It’s actually these color adjustments make this preset stand out among our Lightroom presets for winter.

On the other hand, Winter Light also decreases the saturation of purple and magenta. This adds to the stylish look and feel of the preset. Then, it goes on to lower the luminance of some colors to match the neutral, yet ethereal, appeal of snow.
