Sets a Vibrant Summer Atmosphere

Sunny Vibrance. As a preset designed for summer scenes, Tropical City begins by setting the basics for a sunny look. It adds some light by increasing exposure and warms by boosting the color temperature. These are enhanced to recreate the intensity and golden hues of sunshine.

Look at the resulting photo above of a resort. It is easy to spot the added brilliance by observing the clear blue sky and the illuminated pool water. Notice, too, how this amplified light looks warm now. The inviting and complex sunset orange hues that you see will be set and refined later on.

Brightens All Tones

Stunning Tones. To add to the lively vacation feel, Tropical City further brightens by illuminating all light and dark tones, from shadows to highlights. This reinforces the heightened amount of light.

As a result, you can expect intensely bright whites and softened shadows. This is, after all, the look that you get when photographing sunny scenes. To refine these adjustments, Tropical City applies similar but moderated adjustments to the tone curve. Examine the effect on the clouds and the brightened trees.

Creates a Vivid Orange and Teal Look

Orange and Teal. The preset draws out and amplifies orange and teal hues by setting the right levels at Lightroom’s HSL panel. It deepens shades of red and orange by moderately reducing its saturation. This goes hand in hand with the overall color adjustments that will be detailed later on.

Tropical City makes aqua and blue hue striking by increasing their saturation. It then particularly amplifies the luminance of aqua, to add distinct brilliance to it. These tweaks will blend to create the preset’s unique approach to this sought-after visual style.

You can examine the results in the After photo above. You can see the distinct orange and teal hues now, so vividly: see the lightened sky and the deep-orange structure. Notice, too, how Tropical City manages to draw out some tangerine hues from the palm tree.

Intensifies Colors and Midtones

Color Boost. Unlike many orange and teal themed presets, Tropical City retains realistic and natural colors. It only intensifies them and conservatively tweaks warm and cool tones to match the said popular cinematic motif. Again, unlike many others, this orange and teal variant produces punchy hues and crisply defined tones. Amidst all the brightening, the colors do not look washed out.

The example photo above demonstrates this well. The coast now looks captivating because of the color boost. To achieve this effect, the preset amplifies the usual elements for color intensity: contrast, saturation, and vibrance.

Sharp Details. To add depth and definition, Tropical City strengthens midtones by increasing clarity. See how this improvement adds dimension to the trees. This, of course, calls for improvements in texture as well; the preset, therefore, applies further sharpening. All of these adjustments combine to create an HDRimage.

Let us look at the After photo: compare the depth and texture of the leaves, the trunk, and the dramatic clouds in the background. Also, notice how Tropical City’s deepened tones look even more remarkable against the vibrant teal hues.
