Soft Radiance premium Lightroom preset produces luxurious bright and neutral whites that are ideal for blog and social media photos. Its aesthetic adds an elegant matte touch to product flat lays, portraits, and interiors. We finely optimized its tone and lighting settings so you would not need to worry much about uneven or harsh regions in your shot.
You can easily notice how the preset evens out tones in our examples — after all, this is the usual problem when shooting indoors without sufficient lighting. It does not stop there: we also complement the resulting rich whites with soft but radiant hues, hence the preset’s name.
Soft Radiance’s understated motif sets a uniform look throughout images. Just by looking at the featured collage above, you can see how the preset sets a beautiful cohesive look. It is stunning as an Instagram filter, especially if you are going for a professional look.
Balances Color Tints to Draw Out White Tones
Soft Elegant Whites. We set the white motif using a lot of color settings. We begin, of course, with the basic adjustments in temperature and tint. Both are balanced to support the succeeding, more granular, settings.
We do most of our tweaks in Lightroom’s HSL panel. The trick here is to blend the colors at varying levels without making them look artificial. We, of course, consider how these affect skin tones, among other crucial elements in an image.
Produces Soft and Neutral Whites
Even Tones. If you are shooting indoors, it is possible that you would have harsh artificial light sources that blow out highlights and give off exceedingly blue or yellow hues. You do not need to worry much about these; we neutralize lighting temperature with settings in tone.
We lower contrast and generally narrow the tonal range. This creates a desirable and sophisticated matte look. Try to examine both light and dark regions in the example above, especially on the fabric: highlights and shadows are no longer harsh and all tones appear even.
Neutral Whites. As you may have already noticed, the preset’s most obvious effect is how it neutralizes warm tones in a photo. In the example above, the Before photo’s pasta looks too yellow, likely because of a warm light source. Compare this with the result: the After photo’s pasta looks illuminated by daylight, with purer and richer whites.
We create this effect by adding a light gray tone to highlights and shadows. This adds to the overall soft motif and grays out unnecessary yellows or blues in lighting. This effect, of course, combines with all our settings in color and tone.
Brightens and Preserves Depth
Clean and Clear. Despite all our softening adjustments, we preserve a lot of detail by amplifying clarity and sharpening levels. We do not overdo it, of course, and keep everything looking natural and elegant.
We also subdue tones a bit further by lowering vibrance and tempering saturation levels. These essential settings are meant to produce rich whites and skin tones. After all, we want this Soft Radiance preset to enhance portraits as well.
The Before-After example above demonstrates how the preset subdues tonal tints without washing them out. The original shot looks somewhat unnatural with its bluish tint and excessive magenta. Soft Radiance instantly corrects this: the subject now appears illuminated by sunlight from a window. The woman’s skin tone looks more natural as well. Notice, too, how the preset retains the photo’s depth and detail.
