Sepicol is a free Lightroom preset that uses warm brown hues to produce a cool sepia tone on your images. The preset adds browns and grays in the highlights and shadows that result in transforming your photos in a vintage film look.
If you are looking for a soft sepia tone for your photos, the Sepicol preset is worth a try! It performs well on both indoor and outdoor photos. You can try it on your prints for a classic display in your space, or something you can incorporate on your Instagram feed.
Applies Custom Adjustments to Create a Vintage Film Look
Soft Vintage. The Sepicol preset applies its custom tone curve which helps brighten up images. It intensifies both highlights and whites to bring out a balanced brightness throughout the photo. You can instantly notice this setting applied in the After photo. Now, it is seemingly brighter without making the image too exposed and keeping the balance of both black and white elements.
Looking back at the After photo, it is easily noticeable how the image turns into a subtle tape film look. To achieve this, the preset adjusts its Split Toning by adding brown tones in highlights and gray tones in the shadows. This setting not only mutes warm tones, but it also converts cool tones into a darker shade.
Creates Contrast in Your Photos
Illuminated Whites. Here is an example of how the Sepicol preset creates contrasts through altering whites and blacks. Comparing the two photos, the Before photo looks rather drab and uninteresting as it is underexposed. The Sepicol preset alters this through brightening whites and darkening blacks to bring out the contrast of colors and lighting. This creates a layer and a focus on the subject: The mother with the two children, rather than having them blend with the sea of people.
Highlights Textures
Textured Elements. Like any vintage photo, texture plays an important role in every image. The Sepicol preset increases dehaze in presence to adjust the soft textures in your shots. This means also eliminating some fog or misty grains in your photos. This setting is clearly shown in the After photo as the rocks and sand transform into a rough-textured look comparing to its former state.
Change in tint is also seen, as the red undertones of the sand in the Before photo converts into a rich, soft brown tone. This creates that coherent vintage sepia look and feel.
Gives a Warm Cozy Feel to Your Photos
Warm Feelings. The Sepicol preset increases warm color temperatures and adds brown tones in its highlights. These adjustments result in constructing a cozy soft feel to your photos. When applied to the example above, the preset releases an illusion of feeling: emphasizing the warmth and satisfaction of drinking in that cute cozy mug.
Accent Grays. Sepicol also adds gray tones in the shadows, which gives more depth into darker areas of your image. You can notice it by examining the woman’s hands in the After photo. As you can see, her fingers are darker, emphasizing the shadows creating more depth and contrast to the overall image.
