Rouge is a premium Lightroom preset that sets a deep rose and aqua color motif. It intricately transforms cool hues to dark shades of aqua-blue and warm colors to rich shades of pink. It also complements this stylistic cinematic look by coating images with an understated matte effect.
If you want to make the most of this unique style, make sure that you apply this preset or filter on outdoor images; you can appreciate the colors most if your photos feature skies, bodies of water, and accent lighting. Rouge premium preset is, therefore, optimized for outdoor portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, and urbanscapes.
This preset is designed to make photo collections artistic and cohesive. Such a stunning motif will thread the images together and set a romantic or ethereal atmosphere. This is a must-try when posting on social media, especially on an Instagram feed.
Mutes and Deepens Tones for a Matte Look
Matte Tones. This preset gives off a cinematic or film feel because of its elegant matte texture. Rouge creates this charming aesthetic by muting whites and highlights, and only deepening blacks and midtones enough to retain natural depth.
These are set to complement and draw out the rose and aqua style. In the After photo above, you can see how the preset mutes highlights: examine the Christmas lights inside the mason jar and the twilit sky in the background. These bright areas are no longer as illuminated but their colors now appear deep and complex. Notice, too, how its shadows and midtones look soft yet dark enough to retain some definition.
Amplifies Colors to Complement Tones
Vibrant Hues. Because of its muting of tones, the preset has to compensate by boosting the intensity of colors. It increases contrast, vibrance, and saturation. It mostly adjusts vibrance because it intensifies without making skin tones look artificial. Even with the distinct color motif, Rouge preset makes sure that outdoor portraits look naturally captivating.
You can examine the result in the photo above. Pay attention to the deep aqua and blue sky, and the vibrant pink and red tones below. These colors look bold enough to set the artistic motif.
Creates its Artistic Color Motif
Rouge and Aqua. The Rouge preset designs its color motif — the signature look — in Lightroom’s HSL panel. It first transforms colors under Hue: it shifts aqua closer to blue, blue to purple, and purple to magenta. As you can tell, the preset does this at various levels, blending them as seamlessly as possible.
Rouge then boosts the saturation of warm colors to draw out its vivid red and pink accents. Its reds are unlike those of our vivid red preset, To make them pop even more, it lowers the saturation of green, aqua, blue, and purple. The result is as seen in the example above: cool tones look muted (in light and intensity) while warm tones are vibrantly underscored.
Illuminates its Color Accents
Brilliant Reds. To draw out the accents further, Rouge premium preset increases the luminance of red, aqua, blue, and purple. As a result, the colors that define its look have more light. The brilliance brings the scene to life and adds some definition to muted tones.
In the urban street photo above, you can notice that the color red is the most accentuated among the warm hues. This is deliberate, as with all the preset’s settings: Rouge lowers the luminance of orange and yellow to make the defining reds pop the most.
The overall aesthetic of this preset is simply unique. We can even say that it is the most creative of all the red presets that we have in our collection. Definitely a must-try.
