Darkens Tones for a Dramatic Look
Rain Clouds. As its name suggests, this preset recreates the look of a landscape whenever rain clouds block sunlight and dim the scene. The preset does not stop there, however. It keeps the photo looking lively by making its colors vibrant; even with the dark aesthetic, all hues remain strikingly vibrant.
To create the dark and dramatic tones, Rain Clouds preset darkens highlights and blackens shadows. As you can examine in the After photo above, these adjustments generally dim the entire landscape. Try to compare the clouds and fields in the Before and After photos.
Amplifies Color and Midtones
Natural Vibrance. Rain Clouds preset creates dark but not gloomy images. Just examine the example above: the preset adds a layer of elegance and complexity to the sky’s colors. It draws them out and reinforces them to become as intense as the dark regions.
To produce this effect, the preset amplifies clarity, vibrance, and saturation. It blends these settings well, at varying levels, to produce the stunning colors you see in the After photo. Notice how the preset retains its natural look.
Refines Color Saturation and Luminance
Balanced Hues. The preset refines its colors by creating a custom camera calibration setting and tweaking Lightroom’s HSL panel. It draws out green hues and prioritizes sky colors, like the orange of sunsets and the aqua accents of the skies.
You can examine the result of Rain Clouds’ color processing in the example above. Pay attention to how it intensifies colors: in the After photo, notice the greenish tint in the horizon and the deepened orange hues.
Dark Cool Hues. In contrast to the previous color enhancements, the preset lowers the saturation of blue and yellow. This tweak aims to darken these common colors of the sky; after all, both are naturally subdued by rain clouds.
To complement this dimming further and make it look more realistic, Rain Clouds preset also reduces the amount of light in cool colors by lowering their corresponding luminance levels. You can examine the result by observing the skyline in the After photo above.
