Neopan 800 is a free black and white Lightroom preset that recreates the look of the iconic Fujifilm Neopan 800 film. It converts colored images into professional monochrome. The resulting photos will have rich grays and a wide tonal range. These will also include the distinct film grains of such a high ISO film.
This film preset is ideal for both digital and print purposes. It can be used across all types of photography as well, from portraits to landscapes, whether shot indoor or outdoor. Upon using this preset, we recommend that you tweak the exposure as necessary, especially if you want to accurately simulate the light sensitivity of the Neopan 800.
Try this pro-film filter in both professional and casual settings. Apply it on your photoshoot images or even on those you simply want to share on social media like Instagram.
Recreates the Look of the Neopan 800
Light Sensitive Film. As a monochrome preset, all of Neopan 800's settings are done in black and white mode. It then proceeds to set the fundamental settings that will recreate the look of the said film. Because of its high ISO (800), it is more sensitive to light and produces noticeable fine grains. The preset increases contrast as well to add greater definition.
As you can examine above, the After image is now bright and textured. The light looks more diffused and the contrast moderately amplified. You can observe these more easily on the woman's clothing and her skin tones.
Broadens the Tonal Range
Nuanced Tones. What makes this black and white preset (and its film counterpart) iconic is its broad tonal range. This is important because it allows for more nuanced grays; these, after all, take the place of color in a monochrome.
To produce this look, the preset brightens light areas and deepens blacks. Neopan 800 then refines these adjustments further in the tone curve. In the above After photo, you can observe the rich grays on the facade. Even with the bright and light ISO, you can clearly see its various shades.
Moderates the Intensity of Shadows
Soft Shadows. The preset softens shadows by moderately lightening them. This goes well with the gentle monochrome grays that it produces, too. Because of this tweak, your photos will not have any harsh shadows. This is, therefore, perfect for portraits like the example above.
You can see how the Neopan 800 preset brightens the image, especially the woman's expression. It removes unwanted harsh shadows and jarring blacks. You can also examine the bushes in the background to see how the preset processes these tones.
Optimizes Luminance in the Mix Channel
Bright Tones. Neopan 800 converts colors into black and white tones in varying intensity or brilliance. This is determined in the preset's mix channel: red, purple, magenta, and blue colors become brilliant grays. You can primarily observe these on skin tones and the sky.
Accentuated Tones. On the other hand, the preset darkens the corresponding grays of yellow, green, and aqua colors. They become deep and crisp as a result. As you can see in the photo above, these tones usually apply to natural elements. This effect helps accentuate the subject on outdoor portraits.
