Mono Hope

Mono Hope free Lightroom preset converts colored photographs to bright black and white. It adds light to photos and further illuminates the grayed-out blue, purple, and magenta hues. Because of its specific brightening adjustments, this monochrome preset specializes in outdoor photos, from portraits to landscapes.

Collection: Black and White Presets, HDR Presets
Best for: Versatile, Indoor and Outdoor
Style: Bright Whites, High Contrast, Vivid, Inky Blacks

You may even use this preset on dim or night photos, given how much brightness it adds to the scene. If you have underexposed shots, you can use this to remedy it, and add that classic analog film look. Given its stunning brilliance and contrast, Mono Hope will look great both in print and on-screen. Try experimenting with this look by applying the preset as an Instagram filter.

Adds Light and a Cool Temperature

Cool Brilliance. Upon switching to black and white mode, the preset amplifies brightness and cools the temperature. You can easily compare the brightness of the before and after photos above. Notice, too, how there is a slight tinge of cool color temperature.

Along with the Mono Hope’s radiant effect is an attractive tonal contrast. See how the darkened road pops more against the vast whiteness surrounding it. You can learn more about the preset’s tonal adjustments in the succeeding examples.

Amplifies Tonal Contrast

Vibrant Mono. To create a stark contrast between light and dark tones, the preset brightens highlights even more and deepens blacks. As a result, you have whiter whites and blacker blacks. Mono Hope only moderates the shadows, lightening them a bit to preserve some details. It applies finer adjustments using the tone curve.

In the above photo of a street, observe the contrast between the white arrow and the asphalt. The result is far more attractive than the original photo. Because of the moderated shadows, too, you can see more the textures of the road. These are then further enhanced by the preset’s midtone improvements.

Intensifies Midtones and Sharpens Details

Crisp Details. To add depth to the bold monochrome aesthetic, Mono Hope boosts contrast, clarity, and sharpening. You can easily see the result above: the image gets stronger midtones, sharper details, and intense tones overall.

Even as a black and white preset, and despite the absence of color, Mono Hope can make a photo compelling and dramatic. We can even consider the above After photo as artistic.

Applies Custom Luminance Settings

Luminance Adjustments. The preset specifically increases the luminance of grayed-out purple, magenta, and blue. You can notice this the most in outdoor portraits (especially on skin tones), and even in photos of urban scenes like the one above. To make sure that this effect is visible, it lowers the brightness of other hues as well.

Mono Hope does these adjustments at varying levels. In the After photo, you can notice how the preset’s added brilliance varies in intensity depending on the original hue. Simply look at the dramatic clouds and the captivating street light accents.
