Legacy Pro 1600 free Lightroom preset simulates the look of a discontinued black and white slide film. It produces a beautiful texture and medium contrast. This monochrome preset also has such a distinct look thanks to its creative rendering of gray tones. Your images would consistently look dramatic and captivating in a matte aesthetic.
This is the preset to use if you want a classic vintage monochrome look with an artistic flair. You can think of Legacy Pro 1600 as the black and white rendition of the popular light and airy aesthetic; it combines style and nostalgia unlike any other monochrome preset. Because of how it stands out, you can use it as an Instagram filter that would give your feed a professional look.
Creates an Artistic Film Look
Elegant Film. Legacy Pro 1600 creates its signature look in Lightroom's black and white mode. This allows it to apply more granular settings in tone, unlike simply muting saturation when converting to grayscale. But as all presets, it begins its series of adjustments with the basics.
True to the "1600" in its name, the preset replicates the light sensitivity and resulting brightness of a high ISO film. It does so by moderately increasing the image's exposure. With this setting, of course, is the expected film effect: a lot of grain. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It contributes to the texture and the preset's convincing retro style.
Crisp Focus. Legacy Pro 1600 adds more film effects to enhance texture. It boosts sharpening enhancements and adds vignetting. These settings are responsible for the focused and crisp mountain landscape above.
In the After photo, see how Legacy Pro 1600 recreates the stylish look of analog photography. Even with the sheer number of black and white presets available online, it is easy to tell how unique Legacy Pro 1600 is.
Lightens and Compresses Tones
Soft Matte. The preset creates its complex matte texture by softening its tones. It mutes whites and blacks: simply, Legacy Pro 1600 darkens whites as it lightens blacks. What you, therefore, get from these strong adjustments is a narrow tonal range. You can examine the After photo above to see the effect. Look at the woman's lightened black coat and the matte white regions. They are all pulled towards the middle range of gray tones.
To make sure that the resulting photo's elements still look distinguishable, or not washed out, the preset refines its tonal settings in the tone curve.
Refines Luminance Levels
Distinct Brilliance. Legacy Pro 1600 applies fine adjustments in brilliance by tinkering with the black and white mix channels. It gets to set the luminance levels of every color's corresponding gray tones. This group of settings enhances depth; given the preset's flat matte texture, this tweak is essential to defining the photo's elements.
The preset brightens purple, blue, and magenta tones. When converted to monochrome, this means that you get bright and rich grays for skin tones, skies, and bodies of water. Simply observe the portrait above. Pay attention to the subject's face and the bright sky in the background.
Medium Contrast. For contrast, the preset darkens the corresponding grays of the remaining colors. This is, of course, set at varying levels for maximum effect. In the After photo above, try to compare the dark rocks at the beach and the water at the coastline. Although both are soft in texture, the difference in brilliance keeps them defined.
