Falling in Blue Film

Falling in Blue Film is a free Lightroom preset that gives images a bright, cool glow. Its unique film effect is defined by soft blue tones.

The preset is ideal for portraits and does well in both indoor and outdoor settings. Its brightening adjustments make the preset versatile for any image, regardless of its lighting conditions. You can use this preset for portraiture, travel, fashion, and wedding photography.

Because of the preset’s unique and professional aesthetic, you can use it as an Instagram filter that would define the look of your feed.

Adds a Soft Blue Film Glow

Bright and Soft, the preset begins by filling the image with light. It does so simply by increasing the exposure, giving Falling in Blue enough light to work with.

Tip: this adjustment works well on most photos taken under dim light or overcast weather. If the resulting image is too bright, try lowering the exposure of the image.

To soften the image, Falling in Blue film lowers the contrast. As a result, there are no harsh tones. It refines this setting further in the tone curve as well, as it moves the RGB channels towards blue. The elegant wedding photo above shows the soft effect, especially on the bride’s gown.

Intensifies Some Tones

Broad Tones. Falling in Blue film broadens the range of tones by increasing and intensifying both light and dark regions. This means brighter whites and darker, truer, blacks. The preset then reduces the occurrence of overblown highlights by reducing its brilliance in the slider. This last adjustment is essential to also regulate the preset’s previous increase in exposure.

The result is shown in the after photo above. The woman’s jumpsuit looks more defined because of the intensified tones. It also has crisper textures and outlines, heightened further by their contrast with the highlights.

Lowers Saturation and Vibrance

Gentler Hues. The preset balances its intensified tones with subdued colors, as seen in the bright outdoor portrait above. This also adds a touch of retro. Falling in Blue film thus decreases saturation and vibrance levels. As a result, hues look softer across the board.

Observe how the preset processes skin tones in the example above. The woman’s skin tones look lighter and smoother. Notice, too, how these color adjustments blend with the enhanced lighting.

Boosts Clarity and Sharpening

Clear and Crisp. The preset enhances the details of the image by boosting clarity and sharpening enhancements. As a result, mid-tones look more vivid, and textures look more refined.

Notice how the image looks more defined in the After photo above. You can see more of the shirt’s folds, the woman’s hair, and the palm leaves in the background.
