Dusk is a premium Lightroom preset that produces strong and vibrant accents. Like dusk, it has a unique blend of dark tones and deep, brilliant, orange hues As a result, it creates a dramatic and mysterious look that goes well with any scene.
This is the artistic preset to use if you want to make a bold statement through your photos. Although versatile enough, it works best on pictures with accent lighting; its copper-orange shades shine best through it. If used on outdoor shots, the undersaturated colors of nature would serve as an ideal backdrop for the orange hues.
You can use Dusk on portraits and various travel photos. Note that this style can be used in both casual and professional settings. Try it as a unique filter for your event photoshoots or even your day-to-day Instagram posts.
Warms and Brightens the Scene
Warm Radiance. Dusk sets the fundamental settings that will allow for more complex enhancements. It starts by slightly warming the color temperature and increasing exposure. The result is like sunlight: the preset uses it to create the striking colors and tones of dusk. More on this in the next examples.
In the portrait above, notice how the woman’s face looks more illuminated in the After photo. The entire shot is a lot warmer and intense, too. Pay attention to how these improvements enhance the subject’s expression and the overall mood of the image.
Desaturates and Intensifies Tones
Bold Hues. To create the dramatic hues that it is known for, Dusk preset enhances color intensity by moderately increasing clarity and contrast, and lowering the saturation of all colors. It expertly blends these to create bold yet muted colors. Clarified midtones add so much more depth to the dimmed environment. You can see the compelling result in the After photo above.
Note the sunlight shining through the canopy. Dusk preset makes it look like the photographer’s favorite golden hour, but with more complex golden-orange colors. This spectacular radiance shines through the darkened scene.
Mutes Highlights and Shadows
Compressed Tones. The genius of this preset lies in its tonal adjustments. It narrows the tonal spectrum, muting the extremities so that tones look rich but not harsh. It clips highlights and shadows almost completely and tempers them only with a slight deepening of blacks.
The result is understated but is essential for Dusk’s indescribable texture. It helps blend the color motif so well and reinforces a photograph’s strong and mysterious atmosphere.
Recreates the Colors of Dusk
Dusk Colors. Just by looking at the resulting photos, you can already see how this Dusk preset complexly tweaks colors. It draws warm shades closer to orange, deepens blue and aqua, and reinforces magenta.
As you can see in the above photo, these colors remain undersaturated to give way for the brilliance of dusk. To produce these vibrant orange sunbeams, the preset increases the luminance of orange, aqua, purple, and magenta. On the other hand, it darkens green and blue.
Try to observe this mixture in the example. You can easily see how the preset nearly grays out the color green of the trees, and how this gives a greater focus on sunlight and skin tones.
