Dramascape is a free Lightroom preset that gives images a cool matte look. It also produces deep yellow highlights for a vintage effect.
This preset works best on photos taken under sufficient natural light. This allows Dramascape’s soft tones to show through more evenly. You can use it to photograph outdoor portraits, landscapes, and urban scenes.
Creates a Classic Vintage Style
Light Vintage. Dramascape defines its look by tinting images with a complex blend of warm and cool hues. It adds a brown tone to highlights and vibrant blue to shadows. You can examine the effect on the woman’s portrait above. Pay attention to the door’s nuanced brown tones.
To complete the vintage aesthetic, the preset also adds vignetting. Not only does it add to the analog photo aesthetic, but it also frames and draws attention to the subject.
This preset is also great as an Instagram filter because of its uniquely tinted tones. Not only would it improve your photo’s look and feel, but also give a cohesive style.
Softens all Tones for a Matte Look
Light and Airy. The preset creates its matte or light and airy look by decreasing the intensity of tones. This means a narrowing in the tonal range: it mutes light regions as it softens darks. As you can see in the example above, Dramascape softens shadows and reduces the brightness of whites. It pulls tones to the middle range of grays. Note the muted sky, the woman’s brightened face, and her lightened winter jacket.
These settings are ideal for portraits. Because of these fine adjustments, your photos won’t have harsh shadows or blinding whites that would otherwise wash out details. To make sure that these enhancements retain the set aesthetic without compromising texture, Dramascape also reinforces similar settings in the tone curve.
Pastels. The preset also softens its colors to match the overall aesthetic. It moderately desaturates hues and reduces clarity levels. As a result, colors are now in pastel and are more easily coated by the preset’s tinted highlights and shadows. You can clearly see the blue and brown overlays in the woman’s portrait above.
Dramascape transforms the mood of the image so much, as its name implies. Resulting images look dramatic yet also cozy and inviting. When being used in portraits, like in this example, the preset’s light aesthetic softens expressions and adds a layer of sophistication.
Softens Colors in the HSL Panel
Retro Fade. The preset refines its softening adjustments further by tweaking saturation and luminance in Lightroom’s HSL panel. This allows Dramascape to set the intensity per color and to blend hues more seamlessly.
The preset desaturates all colors at varying levels, the least for yellow and orange tones. For luminance, it brightens yellow, aqua, purple, and magenta colors; on the other hand, it darkens and deepens red, blue, and a bit of orange. All of these enhancements come together to produce the light After photo above. Notice how some colors pop more than the others, thus adding an impression of depth.
