Vintage black and white photo of a woman strolling down a path

B&W Slide Film

B&W Slide Film free Lightroom preset converts your digital photos to vintage black and white and replicates the look of slide film photographs. It produces high-contrast and brilliant tones so that the image retains depth and detail.

Try this preset if you are looking for a monochrome filter. It will draw out a photo’s nostalgic feel and will give any scene a classic, timeless, look. If you want to give your shot, or even Instagram feed, some analog film charm, this is the preset to go for.

Note that B&W Slide Film is versatile enough to be used on all types of photography, whether shot indoors or outdoors, form portraits to landscapes. Its adjustments are balanced for every use.

Converts to Brilliant Monochrome

Brilliant Mono. What sets B&W Slide Film apart is its bright and deep tones. The preset creates this look by amplifying vibrance and fully decreasing saturation — hence the black and white effect. You can notice the stunning result of this simple combination in the After example above.

The result is much more dramatic and stunning. The woman looks radiant, and the sky remains vivid. These give us the impression that the sky was clear and vibrant, even if portrayed only in black and white.

Brightens Tones in the Tone Curve

Illuminated Tones. The preset further illuminates both light and dark areas in the tone curve. Because of this, photos get bright tones, as you can notice in the example above. Compare the before and after images, especially the background and the man’s brightened face. Light areas are even brighter, giving us the impression that the scene was sunny or well-lit. In the absence of color, this serves as a vital enhancement.

Darkens Shadows for Depth and Contrast

Deep Shadows. To show greater contrast between tones, B&W Slide Film darkens the shadows. This produces crisp inky blacks and adds depth to the image.

Notice the effect on the After photo above. The car is so defined because of the preset’s wide tonal spectrum, and you can now appreciate more of the architectural details of the building. See how its nuanced lighting also reveals the uneven, gritty, texture of the pavement. Because of this preset, you can even sense more depth in the resulting photograph, despite the absence of color.

Enhances Textures

Crisp Details. The enhancements wouldn’t be complete without, of course, some improvements in texture. For this, the preset further increases the sharpening of an image so you can get crisp details every time. The effect is easily noticeable; in the above After image, examine the camera’s details and the texture of its worn leather case. Note how the deepened shadows complement the boost in sharpening.
