1972

1972 is a Lightroom preset that gives images a pinkish-brown retro glow. This is similar to the tints produced by some analog cameras in the 1970s.

Go for this classic look and use this preset on any indoor or outdoor photos. This 1972 preset will look especially great on portraits and urban scenes. You will see more of these in the examples below.

Moderates Light and Dark Tones

Soft Matte. The After photo above looks considerably brighter, with warm and soft tones. This matte look is, after all, reminiscent of 70s photos. The 1972 preset produces this appealing style by decreasing highlights and lightening shadows.

You can observe this effect more closely by comparing the Before and After images above: look at the clouds, trees along the road, and black cars.

Customizes the Tone Curve for a Unique Look

Retro Vibe. This 1972 preset copies the soft and subtle tint of 70s film camera by a specific adjustment in the tone curve. To enhance this effect, it further softens black and white tones.

You may notice how the white paint in the photo above looks muted and warmer, while the black strokes look softer. Some brownish hues coat the image and give it an appealing vintage feel. This is a better look for the portrait above, given the woman’s outfit and style.

You can use this preset whenever you want to feature a vintage look, like clothing or old items. Using this 1972 filter will make it more convincing and effective. Try it on your next social media or Instagram post.

Adjusts Color Luminance for an Authentic Retro Feel

Tempered Hues. For a more realistic effect, 1972 preset also adjusts color luminance. First, it decreases those of red, orange, aqua, and blue. By muting colors from both ends of the color spectrum, you will get a softer look overall. Second, it increases those of yellow, purple, and magenta. See how this elegantly brings out the brownish tones that make the image look more retro.

Look at the After photo above, for example. The entire scene looks warmer, and the roofs appear more vibrant in brown. This makes this 1972 preset ideal for travel photography, especially when capturing urban scenes of historic places or vintage architecture.

Gives a Soft Matte Glow

Elegant Matte. This 1972 preset works very well on portraits. Its detailed tweaks for light and color produce such a distinct soft matte look that illuminates skin tones. Notice also how it gives the photo a more sophisticated look.

To polish this effect more, the preset even decreases the saturation of all colors. Your pictures will appear brilliant yet desaturated as a result. It is an elegant, understated, look that enhances closeups and cityscapes alike.
