Fujifilm Neopan

Fujifilm Neopan is a free Lightroom preset that transforms colored images to highly defined monochrome photos based on the popular Fujifilm Neopan film. It tints its monochromatic tones to produce deep chocolate browns. It is darker and more dramatic than a regular sepia look.

Collection: Black and White Presets, Film Presets
Best for: Versatile, Indoor and Outdoor
Style: Deep Browns or Sepia, Rich Tones, Analog Film

We especially love this preset’s rich tones that are so expressive even with the lack of color. It brings images to life in its own classic and artistic aesthetic.

It is versatile to use, too. You can apply its retro film look on images shot indoors and outdoors, from portraits to landscapes. If you are looking for a stylish yet timeless look for your prints or Instagram feed, you can’t go wrong with this professional preset.

Converts Images to Brown Monochrome

Deep Brown Tones. The preset creator, Contratly, first switches to black and white mode to effectively process in monochrome. It is only after this that he creates Fujifilm Neopan’s signature coffee brown tones. These define the film look, as we demonstrate in the image above. The browns are added to both to the highlights and shadows at specific levels.

Notice how the preset converts without compromising texture and depth, too. We can still appreciate the details on the man’s jacket, the light and shadows on his bag, the subtle background patterns, and his skin tone. Fujifilm Neopan preset retains much of the original shot even with the colors grayed out.

Also, try to observe how the new monochrome look transforms the mood of the portrait, particularly how it complements the subject’s expression.

Dramatic and Cinematic. We selected this image example t0 demonstrates how the preset can add so much drama. It heightens the mood to the point that the picture becomes cinematic! See how the Fujifilm Neopan preset transforms this simple action shot into a movie still.

Because of its monochrome treatment, too, there is now a greater focus on the subjects. We can observe how the preset processes light and dark tones. Try to compare the skies, the lighting on the concave surfaces, and the textures throughout the skatepark.

Adjusts Temperature and Tinting for Elegant Bronze Tones

Varied Luminosity. The preset further adjusts its conversion by tweaking color temperature and tint. How do these color adjustments influence the output in monochrome? By cooling temperature and heightening the magenta tint, Fujifilm Neopan preset calibrates how it interprets the corresponding color’s luminosity in monochrome.

Contrasting Tones. In this case, cool temperatures become more brilliant while the magenta tones look dark and deep. We love how this effect can produce a striking contrast in tone. Try to note that this is most perceptible in the blue skies, bodies of water, and some skin tones.

In the example above, we show how the preset interprets the bluish hues of the snow, and the magenta tones of the coffee being poured. Observe how the preset sets their contrast given the mentioned tweaks above.

Enhances Texture and Adds Classic Film Grain

Crisp Details. To complete its refined film look, Contrastly applies sharpening enhancements to the Fujifilm Neopan preset as well. You can easily notice the result in the After photo above. Textures are more apparent: examine the pavement, the old man’s clothes, his skin, and the bamboo cane.

As a finishing touch, see how the preset adds some fine grain. After all, we expect this of any film emulation. Notice how the grains do not degrade the overall texture but rather enhances it. With this simple enhancement, the classic film look is complete.
